Performer's Notes (By Stephanie Graham):
Lead Thou Me On is a piece written in dedication for a friend and bassoonist (Eric Van de Veer Varner) whose passion for the colour and sound that his instrument offered, lost his life far too young. The choice of instruments and soulful melody reflect her recollections of his contributions to both her musicality and her orchestral style in composition. Fanfare Magazine writes the following: “Alyssa Morris…brings something that we don’t always hear in the music of our time-wit. Add to this a true melodic gift, an ability to evoke a range of moods, and a strong imagination, and the result is a composer whose music is gratifying even on repeated hearings.”
