With our upcoming Christmas concert entitled "Jazz for the Holidays", the orchestra is trying a new educational direction. Our previous concerts have been mostly one-sided as the orchestra plays and the audience participates minimally.
When we looked at the uniqueness of our Christmas headliner, Dee Daniels, we decided we needed a unique approach not just as an ensemble, but also in asking our audience to come see a classical community orchestra try a new type of music. Our group is learning to play differently and learning to listen differently with this concert. Shouldn't our audience have the chance to do the same?
We proudly present to you, our loyal audience, a three-part webinar series available live on Monday nights leading up to our concert. Lead by our very own pianist and resident composer, Bruce Petherick, we're covering questions like: "What is jazz?" "Do you clap after each solo?" "How do you understand the format?"
Jazz, in general, is an experience. It is open for interpretation and is a form of entertainment and music that invites creativity. It beckons the audience to "Join in. Tap your toes. Clap loudly when your ears are pleased with a solo. Experience music being 'made', not performed."
Join us online over the next two Mondays (November 18th and 25th) by clicking here or catch up by watching below.
We hope to see you at the concert on Friday, November 29th. Tickets available now via our website.
